When starting your adventure brand's video marketing journey, a common misconception is that you have to spend a small fortune on camera gear to create amazing content. This couldn鈥檛 be further from the truth.
Focus on telling great stories
You might have the best sounding video or the best picture quality, but if the content of your videos is boring and doesn't engage your audience, it's pointless!
People consume content for three reasons, to be entertained, educated, or inspired, so focus on what you're creating before worrying about how it will look.
The content you create always needs to have a purpose which is why it's so important to put a plan in place for your content, whether that's video or photography.
Think about why you're creating the video, who your target audience is, what you'll say, and how you'll market it.
Story is an innate part of the human experience, and if you want to enhance human connections, you need to tell stories that excite your audience.
Utilise Gear You Already Have
When creating videos or taking photography, utilise your existing camera equipment and resources while you master storytelling.
Most of us have a tool in our pockets but often overlooked is our smartphones.
The cameras that smartphones have nowadays are fantastic and can achieve excellent results. You'll be surprised at the quality of video and photos you can create by using the camera on your phone.
Before deciding whether to invest in better quality gear, start taking pictures and shooting videos. You first need to understand the basics to better understand what equipment you could purchase to improve your marketing in the future.
Make Video Audio A Priority
If you are going to invest in any video equipment, start with the audio.
Audio is one of the most critical aspects of your video, and bad audio is the quickest way to push your viewers away.
You will get much better audio from dedicated microphones than from using microphones built into your camera, but again, you don't have to spend a fortune when starting out.
Just remember to choose a solution that best fits your video style.
Different types of microphones will work best for certain types of videos. For example, lapel microphones are ideal for capturing a person walking and talking as they are pinned to their shirts.
Once you know the type of video you will be creating, you will better understand the type of microphone you need for the job.
Enhance Your Video With Great Lighting
Even if you have an expensive camera, your video's image quality won't be up to scratch if the lighting is poor.
Whether using your smartphone or a professional camera, take advantage of natural light when shooting videos. Natural light is a great way to light your videos, not to mention the cheapest.
I would recommend investing in video lighting after your audio. This will add more light into a scene when filming, better illuminating the subject and increasing the image quality.
